Battery Passports – Stakeholder Needs and Opportunities

A Review of UK Readiness forBattery Passports

Manufacturers (and their ecosystems) will be responsible for creating and maintaining Digital Product Passports and Battery Passports for products including Electric Vehicles (EVs).  Implemented well, these could offer a plethora of efficiency savings for businesses, reducing process complexity while improving manufacturer sustainability credentials.  Implemented poorly, Battery Passports could significantly increase the administrative burden for limited real-world gains with notable opportunities for human and informational errors. Given the role of batteries in a NetZero future, this needs to be done right, such that the development of early Battery Passport solutions does not preclude future opportunities and capabilities.

The aim of this InterAct funded research project is to build upon the findings of the Data Innovations Project and to shift focus to an in-depth study of stakeholder needs and opportunities for; a) the immediate EU Battery Regulation compliance obligation for manufacturers and producers, b) future opportunities and innovations enabled by Battery Passports, and c) the holistic implications for UK industry and policy.

Objective 1 – Conduct an online survey to evaluate existing capability and gaps in the delivery of BPs, making recommendations and synthesising readiness concerns.

Objective 2 – Develop a series of business scenarios/stories highlighting opportunities and innovations enabled by BPs, that will feed into future solution requirements for PP systems and associated technologies.

Objective 3 – Host an interdisciplinary Expert Panel as a round table discussion on the implications of the research findings (from WP1 and WP2) and the adoption of BPs and DPPs for Industry, to feed into UK Policy consultations in 2023.

Battery Passport Survey Launched

Find out more about the EU’s Battery Regulations and take part in our survey to assess UK Readiness Survey closes on the 3rd March 2023. Please take part if you Produce, manufacture, assemble, import, distribute, sell, operate, maintain, repair, refurbish, upgrade, remanufacture, recover, reuse, and recycle any type of battery, or any products that incorporate batteries. You don’t need to have an awareness of the EU’s new regulations to fill in this survey, we want to capture UK’s current levels of awareness and preparedness. Please can you spare between 15 – 60 minutes (you may not need to fill out all sections) to take…
